The Rise of the Generalist 🌊

When someone asks me what I do, I squirm a little. And it's because I can't give a succinct answer. It's because I can't give a succinct answer. I never quite know how to say I'm a generalist, and the world is so used to everyone being in a tidy box. But, I think my skillset brings alot to a company, especially to startups. I also think that generalists are going to be more in-demand as remote work rises and we care less about titles and more about output. But there's nowhere for companies to hire people specifically like me. So, I asked the Q in one of the most clever communities I know (s/o to Trends.co). And, it struck a chord. Overnight, 40+ people vented their exact same frustration. And here, my friends, lies one heck of an opportunity. πŸš€ We hear a lot about the future of work. We know that most school kids will work jobs that don't exist yet. The time is coming for problem solvers, and lateral thinkers. People who can put their hand to anything in a business. Who work wherever they're needed, rather than what a traditional job title dictates. Yes, specialist positions will always be in demand, but with remote working never being easier - my hunch is that the rise of the generalist hasn't even begun to begun. πŸ™ƒ So, let's talk opportunity. 1- Niche job matching solution. Generalists are a start-ups superpower. Having someone on your team who can pick anything up and run with it, is the biggest lever to exponential growth. Our intimate pool of high-quality talent will be their first port of call. This will be the job board for those who wear many hats (and hate pigeonholes) πŸ˜… 2- Community. There is literally nowhere for generalists to convene. A closed community is inevitable. Think peer support, networking, knowledge-share, funding network etc. Entry needs to be clearly defined, and pretty strict to keep quality high and true to purpose. 3- Education. Courses, accreditation, school and university partnerships. The world is our oyster when it comes to raising the next generation of problem solvers. I'm validating this idea now. If you'd like to contribute, reach out 😊
